Trick: Ask someone from the hotel maintenance crew or wait staff, "What are some of the problems with the room? Are there any bad light switches, or wall electrical outlets?" They might point you to a troublesome light switch or some other pesky problem. They know the rooms and their advance warning will give you a chance to figure out a way to handle the problem. Chances are they won't offer their advice unless you ask.
